Sleep

After my post yesterday about Evan not sleeping much, we made a breakthrough! After nearly two hours of feeding/swaddling/blow drying/rocking/swinging/pacifying/crying (both mom and baby)...we finally got Evan to sleep! I just let decided to let him nurse laying down with me in bed and we both fell asleep...for SIX hours!! Whether or not you should or shouldn't co-sleep with your baby, it let both all three of us get some much needed sleep. Besides, after not having your baby sleep for more than about 10 minutes at a time from 4:30 pm till midnight, I'll do whatever it takes! Well, just not letting him "cry it out".

Three weeks

Evan is three weeks old today! We've had a rough few days as Evan doesn't like to sleep much lately. He eats plenty, when when it's time to go to sleep he fights it off. He's also been sounding like his nose is stuffed. I'm thinking that part of the reason that he can't sleep is because of this congestion. His nose isn't running and doesn't seem sick otherwise. The other part about it is that it's not constant. Sometimes he sounds stuffed and other times he doesn't.

As far as other news...

#1. We've discovered a few ways to calm Evan down when he's fussy: a blow dryer, the "Superman" hold (as seen in the video posted earlier), and pacing around the house very quickly.

#2. I've noticed that Evan wakes up in the morning between 6:30-7:30 and is up for about two hours before going back to sleep. He also tends to go down for the night around 12:00-1:00 am. That's about as much of a "schedule" or "routine" that we have thus far. It's not much, but it's something.

#3. We still absolutely adore him each and every day!! Even when he looks like this...

4th of July!

Evan's first holiday has arrived! We went to a friend's house for a BBQ and swimming. Well, Paul was able to swim. Evan and I are still off limits from the pool. It was great getting to see many of our friends and show our little man to all of them. In addition, I now feel like I'm a real member of the Mom Club. We have two friends that are due in October and they were asking for advice...it's kind of a nice feeling!

Anyway...

Evan wasn't able to go see fireworks this year, so we took a photo of him with the ones on t.v. in the background.

Weight loss

I'm completely surprised at how quickly I've been losing the "baby weight". I started the pregnancy weighing 135 pounds. This first photo is when I was 11 weeks pregnant and still not showing.

I ended the pregnancy weighing 160 pounds at my 39 week appointment; four days before my due date. The following picture was taken on my due date.

Currently, my scale at home says 135. We'll see what the doctor's says on Monday at my two-week check-up! Finally, this one was taken this morning. I tried on a pair non-maternity jeans...another inch or so and I can wear them again! (I think I've gained hips...they're a little snug now!)

Two Weeks

Our little Evan is now two weeks old! It's gone by so fast already that I can't imagine how quickly the next several years will go by as well. Here are some highlights of this past week.

#1. Evan's umbilical cord fell off! The doctor even thinks that Evan might end up with a partial outie.

#2. He now weighs 8 pounds, 12 ounces and is 21.5 inches long. (He gained 10 ounces since our last pediatrician appointment last Thursday.)
#3. I've started to take pictures of Evan in the glider. (I took this idea from a fellow blogger/friend. Each month I'll take a picture of Evan in the same chair to show how he's grown. I've also decided to take a two-week picture to start it off.)

#4. Paul and I have officially been "sprayed". For me, it's only happened once. For Paul...three times!

I'll finish this post off with a video. Paul and I find it hysterical when Evan tries to eat any part of Paul in search of milk. For example...

So I thought...

that I would still be able to blog pretty frequently once Evan was born. I was WAY off! It's really one of the last things on my mind. Well, I THINK about it, but I don't actually get to DO it. So I've decided that at least for the next few weeks that I will at least do a weekly update if I can't get on here sooner. I'll do a two week post tomorrow. For now, here are some pictures of my sweet little boy...

(Yes I know that Evan should be sleeping on his back, but I had just finished feeding him in bed and I wanted to get this picture taken.)
