Since before E started "talking", he's been calling my dad "uh-uh" with a cough like tone. Well, that's going away. Now Grandpa is "Papa". E has also started calling my mom "Nama".
I'm so proud of how much he has been saying. Although he still says mostly one word, he is starting to say a few two or three word phrases like "more juice" or "more apple juice".
Here is a list of words that he started saying in October:
nana (banana), blue, boo, bye, cat, cheese, ca-ca (cracker), dog, down, duck, shish (fish), go, hot, milk, out, shit (shirt), spoon, truck, yes, cut, tick-tick, Emma, shake, Pooh, house, honey, hot dog, hurt, hay, duck, cat, ice beam (ice cream), candy, nope, doctor, ipad, back
I'd say he's started saying more words this month than the past two combined!

G is 2 months!
Little G isn't so little anymore. It's amazing to me that the past two months have flown by, even faster than usual. I just finished up my first week back to work, which means I'm now pumping. I've built up quite a stash in the freezer and in the fridge. G has been such a wonderful addition to the family and I can't wait to see how his relationship develops with E as they grow older.
Here are some stats for the little guy:
- thinks the ceiling fan is hilarious
- falls asleep in the Moby wrap for hours after fighting against it when he's initially put in it
- holds his head up and away from you when he's against your chest
- is quiet and calm unless he gets hungry or tired
- has not had such reflux issues as he did before, I think he has become aware of how much milk he is getting and will pull off when he can't take it all
- takes a pacifier, will fall asleep with a pacifier or spit it out just prior to falling asleep
- generally wakes once, sometimes twice, at night
- tends to sleep a good solid stretch from about 7 pm to almost 3 am
- is a chunker!
- still is a breast milk only baby
- gets gunk between his toes and fingers
- is losing the hair along his temples (receding hairline)
- is completely loved and adored by his brother (and us too)
- has some powerful poop explosions
- tracks well with his eyes
- has muscle strength of a four month old (according to our pediatrician), although still needs to get used to tummy time (I think his double chin is making it hard to lift his head!)
- is a smiley, happy baby
- smiles sideways like his Dad
- has rolled from belly to back
- can be found almost entirely unswaddled when he wakes
- wears size 2 diapers
- is almost too big for 3 month clothes
- "coos" a lot
- weighs 12 lbs., 11 oz.
- is 23" long

I survived
Well, I made it through my first week back. However, I did talk to Paul (almost nightly) about possibly staying home the following year.
The kids seemed to do well with my mom, she had a few days that both boys napped well. A couple were hard, with today being one of them. Evan was up from about midnight to four in the morning vomiting. Paul was really great and took care of him while I got up with G (who decided to get up every two hours).
There are some definite changes that have to be made in my classroom, but it's nothing that can't be fixed. Just have to deal with some misbehaving and chatty kids.
Oh yeah. So I get a message from our HR assistant telling me to call her. I finally get a chance on my way home from work today at around 4:10. She says that I need a re awe from my doctor in order to returned to work. Apparently she couldn't tell me this when I emailed her a week ago saying I was returning today. She tells me that I need a release faxed in as soon as possible, if not, I'm not supposed to be in the classroom. In fact, I shouldn't have been there this past week. Awesome. Good things my ob/gyn closes at 4 on Friday. Awesome.
Here's to one week down!

I sit here on my couch not wanting to go to bed. It's 9:30 and I now I should. I have to wake up at 5:30 to go back to work. I should.ne getting sleep.
Instead, I'm avoiding sleep. It's likely that I will be a zombie this week.
My lunch is packed, my pump is packed, and I have new pictures to put up in my classroom.
I just don't want to go.
It's not that I don't like my job. I love my job. I love my coworkers. I adore my students. I'm good at my job.
I just love my kids more.
I'm going to miss snuggles with G before naps and holding him all day, playing with E outside in the morning, watching E spin in quick circles playing with his cars, having G smile as he wakes from naps or when i play peek-a-boo with him, watching E give G kisses and hugs and tickles throughout the day.
I won't see them for 9+ hours a day. That's 45+ hours a week. That's a lot.
Wish I could stay home...
Maybe next year.

napping troubles
Let me rephrase.
Lack of napping troubles.
E has not been able to nap the past two weeks unless it's in the car. We have been trying to wean him from being rocked to sleep or having his back rubbed to sleep. What we have been seeing is a child playing in his room, coming out, and us having to walk him back for an hour. He did fall asleep one day last week.
I go back to work on Monday leaving my mom alone with the boys. I don't want to make it a habit for him to nap in the car everyday. Nor do I think it will be realistic for my mom to take both kids for a ride in order for one to sleep.
Trust me, this child NEEDS a nap. Yesterday he didn't nap at all and it was disastrous. Tears came whenever he did anything or we did anything. Literally. I looked at him and he'd cry.
Besides giving in to rocking him, rubbing his back, or locking him in his room so he can't get out, are there any suggestions? (Money wise, buying a crib is not an option. We are going to have to keep him in his toddler bed.)

Schnepf Farm
Saturday afternoon we met up with P's family to celebrate birthdays at Schnepf Farm. The weather was fabulous out and E had a fun time playing at the farm with his cousins, as well as the rides and animals. We had also ate some delicious chili and rode a train, but never made it to the pumpkin patch. Oh well, maybe next year!
first face painting experience
attempting to take a photo of the cousins..doesn't work so well with a 5 year old and two 2 year olds
E LOVED this tractor
checking out some swine - I made sure to wash his hands after touching the pen
carousel ride - p was extremely happy that e was able to ride the one and only dog; he was making dog noises the entire time they were waiting in line
hugging trees, and getting sap all over the front of his shirt

The end is near...
One week. I have one week left of maternity leave. I'm not happy. Thinking about the number of hours in a day that I will not be with them to cuddle and kiss and comfort them makes me tear up.
What I am happy about is the amount of time I have been able to spend with my boys. They are the banana to my bread. The sunflower to my seed.
So many good things have happened over the last 7 weeks. It has been hectic, frantic, draining, exhilarating, and rewarding.
E has been going to school for a few weeks again. This past week my mom said she left E alone in the classroom while she went to the bathroom. She asked if he wanted to go with her and he said no. The teacher was notified that she was leaving and when she came back he was fine. It's such a relief to know that he is so comfortable at school that he is willing to be by himself among the other students!

I have been able to witness E in his speech classes and see how he interacts with his teacher. He really does pick and choose what he wants to do. When he loses interest in the activity she has, he will take off and play with some of his toys. She's pretty good about letting him get his wiggles out and will change her schedule to suit his wants. E has been talking much more now - adding new words each week and putting two together. This week he added yipee, yeah, tick-tock, nana (banana).
He is also getting really good at telling us when he needs a diaper change. In fact, he will tell us when he's about to go poop. Now to get him on the toilet...

G is getting bigger, as expected. Last week I tried to put him into a 0-3 month pajama sleeper. It was too big all over. This week, they are getting to be too short. How does that happen?? His onesies are getting to be too short and his size 1 diapers are getting too small. :-( He's still doing well nursing and sleeping. He gets to spend a little bit of time each day doing tummy time and really likes to hold his head up to view the world. He enjoys staring at the ceiling fans and a large iron wall hanging that is above our couch. His "reflux" type issues are getting better. I think it was due to the fact that he was so little and getting too much milk too fast.

I'm going to miss these kiddos when I go back to work.

Yes!
After nealy a week of attempting to put E down for a nap without being rocked to sleep, he FINALLY fell asleep in his bed after 56 minutes of being in his room. Making some progress!
