Hair loss
Not Paul, Evan.
While Evan was napping, I came out of the shower and noticed a lot of hair in his bassinet. My first thought was "Layne! How'd your hair get all over!?" But I looked closer and the hair was only located where Evan's head is at night. Little pieces of reddish-brown hair all over. Later on I looked at the back of his head and it's getting very thinned out. Even both sides of his head! My poor baby boy is losing his hair!!
Maybe I should call Nelson's...

Anniversary
I was just noticing that I never posted about our anniversary!
Paul and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary on Sept. 8th. The day before was Labor Day and we chose to have our special dinner that night. We made some yummy Chicken Divine from a couples cookbook that we own. We opened a bottle of champagne that was purchased from the Korbel vineyard in Sonoma during our 1st year anniversary trip.
Giant Korbel champagne bottle in Sonoma...

(It was so good! As was the chicken!) Evan was sleeping when we ate and it was a nice little romantic dinner that Paul and I were able to share with each other. I was even able to make chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!
On our actual anniversary, Evan joined us for dinner while Paul and I ate our leftovers. We exchanged cards and I gave Paul his gift...an anniversary shot glass.

It wasn't much, but we had decided to purchase a nice wedding album for our photos instead of getting each other gifts this year. (Although I still bought him one anyway. But it's more for the both of us!)

Three months - part 2
Well, I posted about what's going on with Evan, but I figured I could add about myself. I'm doing pretty well so far. There are moments when I'm alone with Evan and I just start crying because I'm so happy, thankful, and in love. This week I've dealt with two incidences of plugged milk ducts. They're not very fun and, in fact, quite painful. Good thing Sarah R. gave me some great advice on how to get them out!
I'm still teaching and therefore still pumping. It's pretty interesting knowing that leaving the house for more than 3 hours requires me to take along my backpack (my pump). Yesterday I went to get my haircut and to a friend's baby shower. During the shower I and had to excuse myself for about 20 minutes to go pump in the car. Paul and I went to a baseball game last weekend...pumped in the car on the way there. I have a field trip tomorrow to Chase Field...all I can think about is "when am I going to pump?"
Evan has been kind enough to let us sleep in some nice long chunks at night, but that doesn't get rid of how tired Paul and I still are. Last night I was nursing Evan laying down to get him ready for bed...we both fell asleep. It was 8:15pm. Granted, that's not the first time it's happened either.
Besides that, I think I'm doing well. At least I hope I am!
**The following was dded three hours after posting**
I was putting away Evan's laundry and adding his breathable bumper to his crib, when I decided that it was finally time to put away some of the clothes that he no longer fits into. I started to cry. As I as putting away some blankets I came across the baby beanies that we were give and some that we purchased. Underneath all of them were the two hospital caps that we he wore. Then I just lost it. I don't want my baby to get bigger!!

Three months
At this time last year, I wasn't even pregnant yet. Now a year has passed and I have a three month old. It's amazing how life has changed!

Evan has been up to a lot this month. Here's a list of what's going on:
1. My mom told us the other day that she and Evan were playing with his favorite lion toy. She said she moved it away and he started to cry!
2. Evan seems to enjoy pointing to/grabbing at things with his right hand. His left hand he uses to pull up his pant legs.
3. He doesn't like riding in the car for too long.
4. Evan's fists have become his new sucking device. He ends up with slobber all over his mouth and hands. It's quite adorable.

5. We've noticed that Evan is often happy playing and talking in his crib after waking from a nap. It's good to know that he enjoys being in there!
6. Paul loves that Evan is so talkative now. Each day it's like he trying so hard to tell us something and babbles are the only way he knows how to communicate. He's often quite LOUD in the mornings too!
7. Evan still loves his ceiling fans.
8. He's also enjoying sitting up more.
9. Tummy time is increasing, but his fondness for it...not so much.
10. Rolling hasn't quite occurred, although Evan definitely leans a lot!
11. We attended Evan's first Academy rehearsal.

12. Evan smiles a lot when you make eye contact with him or from hearing the sound of our voices.
13. Evan's grown into Superman! Each night I seem to wake up to a baby in a half-swaddle.
14. The bassinet is getting to be too small for Evan. Or is it that Evan's getting to big for the bassinet?
15. Paul's getting more sleep at night! Well, we all are! Evan's been able to sleep for longer periods at night. I still have to get up to pump, but at least I can get back to bed afterward. Last night Evan slept from 9pm-4am with only two brief restlessness periods at 1:30am and 3:00am. His daytime schedule is somewhat consistent. He's up between 5:45 and 6:15am, then takes a nap around 7:30. When I get home, I've noticed he starts getting tired around 5:30 or 6:00pm. I try to get him down, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll stay asleep. We're still working on it!
For the next month, we are planning on continuing to get Evan some good naps during the day and a consistent nap and bedtime routine. Our next big step is to move Evan into his crib at night over my fall break in October. (We'll see how well that works out!) Evan's next Dr.'s appointment is October 33 and I can' wait to see how much he's changed!

12 weeks
Evan is now 12 weeks old!

The other day I was telling Paul how I decided to go back and read some of my posts from the last week or two of my pregnancy. It's amazing how that time feels like to long ago, almost as though it never existed. Now we have this incredible new love in our lives.

I've read that if you can make it through the first 12 weeks, that the rest gets better. I don't know how true that is, but it seems to get easier and then he challenges us to our limits...like last night. After several night of 5-6 hour sleeping stretches, we had a tough time getting Evan to bed. I was even up for two hours trying to get him back to sleep just after midnight.
Even though some days are tougher than others, it's amazing how one little smile or laugh can turn the day around, or even that milisecond. Some of my favorite moments are when he smiles when he's nursing (like today - sitting in rocking chair, singing, nursing, and Evan smiling every other second), when he now uses his hands to calm himself when he's fussy (he almost got himself back to sleep last night and today by sucking on his fists), when he rubs his head on my shoulder when it's naptime, watching him play and laugh and hit his toys with his fists on his activity mat, when he sighs, and when Evan smiles the moment I start talking to him when I get home.

Rollin' and swaddlin'
Evan has been working quite a bit lately on getting up on his side when he's laying down on his back. We've now reached the point that we have to *really* watch him on his changing table. This morning, Evan was playing on his activity mat with me. I had him on his tummy when all of a sudden, he rolled over to his back! It was rather quick and I was shocked! I yelled for Paul to come over and see. We put Evan back on his tummy and, of course, he did nothing. After talking to Paul about, I found out that he's done this before on accident, like he tipped over. But I think that this time he did it on purpose!
We've also been changing Evan's swaddle technique. Lately he's been kicking his feet out of the swaddle blanket pouch, so we've decided not to put his legs in. He seems to enjoy this much more. Evan also has been able to "escape" from the straitjacket-like wrap. When I put him down for a nap this morning he slept like this.

Getting stronger
This week, Evan's been up to the usual baby stuff. Eating, sleeping, pooping (sometimes, and when he does...boy is it loud), crying (not a lot), and SMILING!!
We're also working on putting Evan to bed when he's sleepy, and not sleeping. It's tough and it takes a while, but I'd much rather be patient and do it this way. Evan also still loves looking at the ceiling fans in the house.

He'll let you know when he's not happy that you've moved him from being able to see them too. In addition, he's teaching us that he would much rather be put into a sleepy state by walking around the house rather than being bounced while sitting down.

He's also getting to spend a lot of time on his tummy and playing on his activity mat. Evan is enjoying the fact that his hands can DO THINGS...like grab! His legs are very actively kicking and moving all the time too.

Although I HATE having to work instead of being home, I do love when I get to some home. (Don't get my wrong, I love my job, I just hate having to leave Evan.) Since I get home a few hours before Paul does, we get to spend some quality time together.

And since Paul leaves for work after I do, he and Evan get to spend quality time together too...sleeping! No fair!
