Layne's New Trick
When he was a little puppy, Layne quickly discovered that the door stops in our house make noise. However, he never really did much with them. Recently, he's become VERY aware of what they do. He now uses them as an attention/food receiving device.

Layne
It's been a while since I've written anything about Layne on this blog. He's still around...no worries! Paul and I have noticed two things lately.
#1. Layne likes baseball. He will sit on the floor alongside the couch and peer his head above the coffee table to get a view of the screen. Last night we were watching the Indian's special on the MLB channel. He totally dug it!
#2. Layne was getting too big for his bed. He would lay in there curled up tightly to fit himself in. But half the time part of his body would end up falling out...

28 weeks
I had my doctor's appointment yesterday. It seems that everything is going well! Although to me is seems that my tummy has grown rather large, Dr. Chavira says that I'm where I should be. We had several questions for him this time and he was able to answer them for us. Sometimes when we go we're the last appointment and we feel rushed, but not this time. Some of the questions we asked he said we'd be getting more information about at the childbirth class.
By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.12 WEEKS TO GO!!

Almost there...
After four nights of working (and a little during the day), we've been able to finish painting and setting up some of Evan's furniture! Now we just have to wait for the rest of it. :)
Opening the box...it was HUGE!

Preparing...
On Sunday, Paul and I started to get Evan's room ready for painting. We washed the walls, removed the socket covers, and started putting up blue painters tape. We also realized that we were short on tape and we didn't have any Spackle to cover cracks and holes.
Yesterday I ran over to Home Depot to purchase the missing materials. After Valerie and I finished the baby shower invitations, I was able to complete the tape and Spackle jobs. Then it was time to head off to dinner with some girlfriends. I had left Paul a note in Evan's room letting him know what I had completed. When I came home, Paul had a surprise for me too. He had painted all of the room himself!! Somehow he was able to completely paint the room in three hours! (I'm amazed by that because it would have taken me a lot longer to do it myself!)

We'll be touching up the room tonight and hopefully putting the crib and dresser together as well!

Meet Evan!
We were able to have our 3d ultrasound this morning thanks to our friend, Liza. The package online said that we would receive a 30 minute session with 10 images on CD. After a ton of stomach pushing and jiggling, turning on my right side, left side, and flat on my back we ended up having a 45 minute session and 75 images! Evan was being a bit camera shy and kept covering his face with his arms and legs. We were also informed that he was in the breech position and hopefully by 36 weeks he'll turn himself around. (At least I sure hope that he does!) It was amazing to see that our baby is not just black, gray, and white, but a little human that smirks, waves, and yawns. He's beautiful!!

27 weeks
We've almost hit the third trimester and it's amazing to think that in my due date is now 3 months away! Baby Evan will be here in no time! We will be having our 3d ultrasound this weekend and finishing up the baby registry. Paul also received the call that our crib and dresser are ready to be picked up. Look for more pictures soon!
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with his legs extended. He's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if he were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother him, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.13 weeks to go!

More babies!
We found out a few weeks ago that our friends, Tracey and Jason, are pregnant and expecting in early October.
My friend, Ashley, from high school and her husband, Rob, are expecting TWINS! I found out today that she is 12 weeks, due in September, and has been showing since the beginning of February!
Congrats and best wishes for easy pregnancies to both families!

Baby shopping
Paul and I went out to dinner last night and then decided to go nursery shopping at Babies 'R Us. Thanks to Marie and Jack, we were able to purchase Evan's crib and dresser/changer combo thing. They should be ready for pick up in 7-10 days and then Paul will get to have the fun of putting them together!
This morning after mass, we went to the Home Depot and bought paint for Evan's room. Hopefully we'll have the painting completed before the furniture comes in!

Invitations
After Paul and I were engaged, one of my favorite (and most anxiety driven) parts of the wedding process was selecting our invitations. I really wanted something beautiful and creative, but I didn't want to spend the $8-$12 per invitation that we were being quoted. Especially since everyone throws away the invitations anyway! I spoke with some of my recently wedded friends about how they cut the cost of theirs. It turned out that I could make my own and spend much less! So after some research and a lot of dreaming, I put together our invitation and they were assembled with friends and family.
Since then, I've made just a few more invitations. If you know anyone that would like some assistance or have some made for them, I would love to help!
I know the lighting isn't fabulous in these photos, but that is something I'll work on!

26 Weeks (Belly pics!)
OK... again, I'm early. It's just that I get sooo excited and anxious! Besides, I can't post tomorrow night because Valerie and I will be making the shower invitations.
So here we go...
I feel that as the weeks progress, the more mature I seem to look as well. Maybe I'm becoming more motherly. I've also been getting more gray hairs. Coincidence?
The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.

Paul and I might try shining a flashlight on my stomach to see if he reacts. Now when Evan moves it is becoming more obvious that he's moving specific body parts around. Yesterday he even hit us back! I was pressing on my stomach when he socked me, and then did the same thing to Paul!

Indian's News
Today Paul and I headed to our first Indians game together. Paul's sister and dad came along as well as our friends Tommy and Chris. We had great seats directly behind home plate. They were in the last row, kind of where the handicap seats are.
