A Mommy Moment
As bad as I have been about posting, I know it probably won't get much better. School has resumed and I'm feeling more swamped with things to do. My time with the kids has dwindled down to a few hours a day. I miss them terribly, but I know that after this school year, I'll be there for them all day and every day.
Last night, Paul and I were able to go out on a date while the boys were at my parents' house. I shared with Paul how excited I am to know that I will be the one taking the boys to school every day and to pick them up. The thought of it started to make me tear a bit.
Silly? Probably. But as each summer/fall/winter/spring break goes by, I'm reminded of what I'm missing out on. I know that what I do for work is important and meaningful, that we need the income, and that I love what I do. But man....do I miss my kids.
I've told Paul many times: I don't want to regret not staying home.
At the same time, I'm frightened that I will struggle getting a job when the time comes to go back to work. Or that we have a hard time financially.
Even still, I can't wait. Only 10 months to go.

Sensory time!
Yesterday the boys were getting a bit antsy from being in the house during a storm, so I quickly made up an activity: lentils and pasta.
They loved it!
Back to Work; One More Year
Well, yesterday was my first day back at work. We've been in professional development sessions up to now and tomorrow we can go back into our new school! I'm very excited for this coming school year.
Not only am I ready for teaching, but Paul and I have made the decision that I will finally stay at home with the kids after this year.
I have been waiting for this time to come for the last four years. We kept putting it off and we are ready for me to not work. I'm not sure how long I'll be a stay at home mom, but I know that I will not regret it!

San Diego Vacation 2013
For the second year in a row, we've taken a summer vacation to the San Diego area. Last year we staying in Carlsbad and this year we decided to try somewhere new.
The boys did really well on the way to California considering that they only took a 30 minute nap when we were expecting them to sleep an hour or more. E didn't want to make ANY stops because he just wanted to get to the beach. We had to force him to get out and use the bathroom.
We booked a room at the Catamaran Resort near Mission Beach. The resort was beautiful. It sits right along the bay, so when we'd have breakfast our view was fantastic. There was a waterfall in the lobby and the kids loved stopping to look at it everytime we left our room. Just outside our room's building there was a small fountain and a pond full of ducks (and ducklings) and catfish. There were tropical plants all around and they would even bring birds in during the day to display. There were a lot of families and everyone was very kind and helpful. The beach was less than a block away, which was a bonus!
After we settled in, we headed to the beach and then went out for dinner at Tony Roma's. It turned out to be a disappointment in food. E kept calling his food "yucky pizza" for the remainder of the trip.
The next morning, we took the kids to the beach again and they were in heaven. All the wanted to do was spend all of our time there.
After a short nap, we headed off to Sea World. E was a big grumpy, as was G, so our visit only lasted about two hours. We were able to catch a dolphin show and E was ready to leave after about 10 minutes into it. It probably didn't help that it was a bit warm and muggy out. E was also adamant about wearing a sweatshirt and gloves. When we finally were able to get them off of him, the poor kid was drenched. After a quick look at some penguins and ice cream, we went to dinner at a little pizza joint, then off to baths and bed.
The next morning we attempted Sea World again. (We had purchased a day ticket and with the purchase, received a second visit free.) It went much better and we were able to see a lot more animals. The weather was much cooler and cloudy too. E and G had fun riding on the Sesame Street rides too. We headed back for lunch and then the kids took 2+ hour naps. Hoorah!
The afternoon was spent at the beach again. I'm so glad the kids have Paul as a dad because he does and knows things I don't! He was able to show the boys the little crabs that dig into the sand along the shore. The boys liked touching them and watching the crabs bury themselves into the sand.
Paul really wanted a seafood dinner, so we went to The Pacific Beach Fish Shop. It was DELICIOUS. I ordered the blackened sea bass tacos and Paul had the TKO tacos. YUM! After dinner, we stopped to get some frozen yogurt then headed back to the hotel for baths and bed.
The next morning, we had breakfast, packed, then headed to the beach for a bit before we checked out. Oh how those kids loved getting into the sand!
Our trip home was a bit more troublesome, but the kids still did well considering. About 20 minutes after getting back in the car after lunch, E said, "I just want to get out and RUN!" I think we all felt that way too. It was great to be home, but we sure to miss the ocean and the weather!

E is four!
This little guy turned four just over two weeks ago. I wrote this almost over a week ago and I'm now just posting it!
We had a little celebration with some friends and family last weekend in his honor.
E, you are such a joy in our lives. We love your cackling laugh when you find something funny.
You want to know why and how things happen in the world around you. You won't stop questioning until you've heard an answer that satisfies you.
You love your brother tremendously and are his protector. You have no problem telling him rules for safety and you let us know when he's doing something he shouldn't.
At the same time, there's no one in the would you'd rather terrorize, squeeze, pillow fight, bump, push, pinch, or knock over as much as him.
You've lately become attached to a Winnie the Pooh stuffed toy that you refer to as "Baby". He will sleep with you, you'll give him mommy milk, change his diaper, and feed him.
You're fascinated with cars, trucks, trains, helicopters, and airplanes.
Playing chase with us around the house is one of your most favorite things to do.
Unfortunately, you still hate water getting in your face. You hate being dunked under water because of it, although you've settled down (for the most part) when we wash your hair in the bath. When we go to swim class you get very anxious and cry because you don't want to go under the water.
We will be going to San Diego next week and you are VERY excited to be going to the beach. We made a calendar for you so that you can see how many days are left and you love seeing each passing day be marked off.
Even though it's hot out, I try and get you outside to play with water and mud at least a couple times a week. You love being outdoors and playing on the side of the house with the water hose, but you don't like getting messy. You'll wash your hands off right away and say, "Oh no! My shoes got dirty!"
However, you don't seem to mind if your face is a mess. You hate it when we try and clean that off.
Your memory surprises us all the time. You can recall location and directions. You remember things when we don't.
You are a fantastic listener and helper. You love to help me cook, especially crack eggs, pour and scoop ingredients, and use kitchen appliances.
You love to come and whisper "Mommy, I love you so much!" in my ear.
When you're upset, you also respond with "I don't love you".
If you see my cry, you'll start crying or come and give me a hug.
We love your sweet and gentle loving nature.
